The Walk for Hope is a 100-mile journey to bringing awareness to the urgent need to end homelessness in our communities.
This five-day fundraising event will start May, Thursday 22nd in Jupiter, Fla. and ends on Monday, May 26th, in Miami Beach. The walk aims to raise awareness and critical funds to support homeless individuals and families across Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties.
With a fundraising goal of providing permanent housing to 10 families, this event will directly support our first, last, and security deposit assistance program. 100% of donations go directly to this program.
David Gallegos will undertake this inspiring journey, starting in Jupiter and concluding in Miami Beach.
David Gallegos has been on the board of the Coalition to End Homelessness since 2023.
David is a healthcare executive with over 30 years of experience working across the healthcare industry. Throughout his career, he has been a dedicated advocate for ensuring that every individual has the chance to live the greatest life possible. While access to medical care is essential, David understands that health is influenced by far more than what happens in a doctor's office. Social Drivers of Health (SDoH) — such as economic stability, education, and housing security — have a profound impact on overall well-being. Among these, stable housing is foundational to health, safety, and opportunity. For children experiencing homelessness has a profound lifelong traumatizing impact. People of all ages who experience homelessness have a 3.5 times higher mortality rate.
David Gallegos, Board Member since 2023.
For David, home is more than just four walls and a roof; it is a refuge from life’s demands, a space where identities are embraced, and personal growth flourishes. From childhood through adulthood, home provides a critical environment for stability, learning, and community engagement. It is within the home that habits are formed, relationships are nurtured, and aspirations take shape. Yet, for far too many, stable housing is an unattainable luxury. Families across the country, including those in South Florida, are forced to allocate disproportionate amounts of their income to rent, leaving little for essentials such as food, healthcare, and education.
Recognizing that housing security is a key determinant of health, David is taking action. As the participant in The Walk for Hope, a 100-mile fundraising walk from Jupiter to Miami Beach, he is walking to raise awareness and funds for The Coalition to End Homelessness. His goal is to ensure that more families can access stable, affordable housing and reclaim the sense of security and belonging that a home provides.
A resident of Weston, Florida, since 2004, David shares his life with his teenage sweetheart, to whom he has been married for more than three decades. Together they have two grown sons who also live in Broward County. His unwavering belief that every family deserves a safe and affordable home fuels his advocacy and leadership in the fight against homelessness. Join David in supporting The Walk for Hope and help make a lasting impact on families in need. Together, we can accomplish the mission of the Coalition, “Ending homelessness through changing lives.”
